Review: Revlon Colorstay 24 HR Whipped Cream Foundation

I decided to try this out because the beauty blogger in me found it necessary to provide you guys with more product reviews here on my blog rather than just talking about them collectively in my Favorites videos. Don't worry, I already have a list to work on. 

I do apologize for the lack of posts. I've been redirecting my focus on my upcoming web store RuxChic which I will talk about later in my other site www.maricarljanah.com and studying, but more so on the former, I'm still working on the latter.

Revlon Colorstay 24 HR Makeup Whipped Cream Foundation is a new addition to the brand's collection of foundation. Here are my first impressions upon seeing it at the store:

• The packaging is very nice-looking since it's in a glass tub with a black screw cap
• But, since it's glass, it's quite heavy.
• It seemed like the product occupied 95% of the container.
• It was priced at a whooping $10-$11 at Walmart.
• They had a limited color selection. I went on a hunch and picked Warm Golden.

 Now, let's move on to my first encounter with the product after purchasing it. Let me just share how long it took me to finally make a decision! It really didn't help that there were no testers and the colors to choose from were limited. I didn't wanna have to go through all the hassle if the color didn't match.

• When I finally opened it, I literally just stared at it for a good 30 seconds.
• The actual product only occupied 50% of the tub. The glass magnified it.
• It was in between a liquid and cream foundation. It looked like sandwich spread LOL
• I wasn't sure what foundation brush to use to get the ideal result.
• I opted for my hands. I guess it's only natural.

These are my thoughts when applying it with my hands:

• It wasn't as icky as liquid foundation.
• It dried smoothly on my hands.
• It was easy to apply on my face.
• The coverage wasn't as heavy compared to using an actual brush.
• It didn't feel heavy on my face.
• The finish was nice, but it wasn't what I wanted.
• It didn't last as long as I expected.

 So, after a failed first attempt, I decided to use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush which I regularly use for my foundations. I simply dipped it inside the tub (I'm the only one who uses my foundation and I clean my brush frequently BTW) and it made tiny impressions on the product. I thought it was going to stay like that, but it returned to its original state and that was pretty cool. These are my thoughts while applying the product:

• It felt nice on my face, cool and relaxing.
• It dries up fast but it's still blendable.
• It instantly gives you an airbrushed look.
• The coverage on the first application is very good. If you don't have any major problem areas that need a lot of coverage, then one layer would be perfect.
• It gives you a very natural, flawless finish. It's not completely matte, more like a satin matte finish if there's such a thing. It makes you look vibrant and healthy.
•  It feels very light on the face, like you're not wearing foundation.
• It's very buildable. Since I have certain problem areas that need two layers, i noticed that it didn't look heavy or cakey at all, not even after powdering. It blends so well it's so impressive!

Now let's go to the lasting power of this product.

• It's quite comparable to the liquid version, except it still looks flawless at the end of the day.
• I have very oily skin and with primer and setting spray, it lasted me the whole day without getting shiny areas or touch-ups.
• It did not transfer, wear off, or melt off my face.
• Without primer or setting spray, the lasting power is cut in half. I have very oily skin and on sunny days, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Let's go to the Down sides:

• The container is heavy, therefore it's not travel friendly at all.
• The whole magnified product is very deceiving. For the price, I would appreciate it to have more product in it, whether or not I only need a small amount per application.
• It's $1-$2 more expensive than the liquid version.
• Compared to the liquid version, this one cannot stand extreme temperatures and vigorous activity. I can go to the gym and sweat with my Revlon Colorstay 24 HR liquid foundation and it still looks fine, this one wears off eventually.

Generally, I love this foundation. It's great for every day. I love the finish and how light it is on my face. Honestly, with a few revisions to the packaging and a bit more product, this will definitely win a spot on my favorite foundations list.
